Technology Provides Seamless Telework Options

At Roswell-based Image Information Inc. the company has taken advantage of current technology to help its employees work from home on a more regular basis.

It utilizes virtual private networks and IP phones to allow staffers access and connectivity as if they were sitting in their offices, and the employees love the freedom the technology has provided.

"It is absolutely a soft asset they all cherish because they have extreme flexibility," said President Bill Johnson. "Not only do we utilize the technology, we embrace it. We push it."

The company has also adopted a summer hours program, in which it shuts the office each Friday at noon, allowing the employee to commute home at a less congested time. Image Information reimburses employees for a portion of Internet and cell phone bills to make teleworking more feasible and affordable for the employee.

"We provide the ability for our people to schedule days out. They can work from home at their discretion," Johnson said.

Image Information goes to show that even smaller employers can develop a very robust and creative telework program.

"The result is a win for the company, its employees and the region," said Kevin Green, executive director of The Clean Air Campaign.

Image Information has been awarded the PACE Award in the small-business category for employers with 100 employees or less.
